The General Accountant is responsible for supporting all areas relating to financial reporting.

 

Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for:

  • Finance: Maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, participates in timely closing and reporting of financial information, deposits checks and prepares monthly bank reconciliation, processes quarterly tax payments, supports budget and forecasting activities, assists in year-end audit, supports grants management.
  • Administration: manages employee travel reimbursements and preparation for client billing.
  • Human Resources: Processes monthly payroll and coordinates with HR department to obtain accurate accounting of benefits and PTO, advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions. Liaison with ADP on monitoring and resolving payroll and tax issues for multiple states.  
  • Department: Collaborates with Finance Director to support overall department goals and objectives and enhance workflow process improvements.
  • May perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

 

Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, gaining experience in researching as it relates to accounting issues
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
